Saunas are unlike any other space in your home or business and require specific design parameters to achieve both compliance with the Building Code of Australia, the manufacturer's requirements, as well as peak functionality, providing the user with an enhanced and safe experience. That's why Sauna Steam & Ice provides design and consultation services to architects, builders and home owners to ensure your sauna is safe, compliant and functions optimally.
Sauna Consultation
1. Materials, ventilation and insulation advice, including:
- Recommendations on timber species, timber profiles, bench styles, sauna volumes.
- Confirmation of insulation requirements and installation practice.
- Location and sizing of ventilation inlets/outlets and ducting.
- Door styles including frameless glass and timber framed doors, handles and hinging requirements.
2. Sauna heaters, lighting and audio options and power requirements including:
- Recommendations for sauna heaters including brands, type, size and applications.
- Advice on lighting, including styles, location and technical requirements.
- Determination of the power supply requirements.
Sauna Consultation and Design
The Sauna Consultation and Design includes all of the items listed within the Sauna Consultation above, but with the addition of the following services:
- Floor plan and 3 internal elevations.
- Bench plans including two sections and bench frame details.
- Backrest detail.
- Recessed LED lighting detail to back rests and benches.
- Reflected ceiling plan (if lighting is to be installed in the ceiling)
- Wall lining and skirting tile details.
- Door and glazing details.

About your Sauna Consultant
Mat is a licensed builder with more than 30 years of construction experience and has spent the past six years specialising in custom sauna design and construction.
As the builder behind Natura Sauna, our sister company, Mat leads the design and construction of custom sauna projects. His experience spans room layout and bench design, ventilation and insulation, heater sizing and clearances, glazing, timber
selection, moisture management and installation.
A sauna can look right on paper and still perform poorly if these elements aren’t considered together. Airflow, heat distribution, room proportions, materials and heater positioning all influence how the finished sauna performs.
Your consultation gives you direct access to Mat’s combination of technical sauna knowledge and hands-on construction experience, helping you make informed design decisions early before key design and construction decisions are locked in. This helps you make confident decisions early and avoid issues that can be difficult or expensive to correct later.
